The sound of Helsinki's Shine 2009 and their debut EP, Associates, formed the very foundation of Cascine. As the story goes: Sami Suova and Mikko Pykari from the band approached Sandra Croft, a publicist who was then working for beloved Swedish label Service, with Associates. She loved the tracks and shared them with Jeff who was also helping with Service. As soon as he heard the music, Jeff flipped out and considered starting Cascine to release the EP. Also that summer, Magnus Wahlström from defunct Gothenburg greats, Boat Club, was getting his pilot's license in America and hanging out with Jeff a bunch in LA. Magnus' encouragement provided the final boost in making Cascine a reality. Sandra hopped on board and the label was off.
Over the past seven years, Shine 2009 and Cascine have collaborated on numerous albums, singles and side projects. Their work together continues.

"On their excellent second album, they pull acoustic strumming and stadium rock riffs into the mix, united by the propulsive balearic wash that has become their signature."
"...conjuring up a special nostalgia for the painfully recent past, a year not long out of fashion but far enough back to feel embarrassed about bad decisions."
"... a sumptuous, seductively dreamy love letter with a dark side."
"...a combination of elegant, crisp art-pop funk that could be from some lost 1980s world."
