Sixteen year old kuru reps the DMV, local shorthand for Washington D.C. and its surrounding states. Next to the demands of high school, practicing for driver’s exams and planning for college, kuru creates a wild collage of electronic music.
kuru started writing songs in the fall of 2019, inspired by his friend demxntia and the music he was making in his home studio. The fire was lit and kuru’s initial sound experiments came naturally. Channeling his early J-pop influences - acts Perfume and Capsule especially - and the contemporary cloud rap of peers 4am, Bladee and Destroy Lonely, kuru’s music emerged as a technicolour swirl of electronic pop, machine-rinsed vocals and southern rap.
What began solely as a bedroom project gently expanded as kuru allied with a global community of collaborators, some of which included d0llywood1, angelus, Blackwinterwells, waifu, litothedon, MISOGI and ginseng. Initially meeting on Discord servers and Soundcloud, kuru has since distanced himself from digital platforms as the primary way of connecting with people, focusing on growing personal relationships IRL. This often entails his crew of friends descending on Los Angeles, Atlanta or D.C. for weekend writing sessions.

"Internet hot-shot kuru recently dropped ‘splitting time’, an ambitious 6-track project mapping out the elusive artist’s blend of hyperpop and digicore sounds"
"While placing himself within the pointedly hyperpop and digicore genre, kuru is revitalising its roots"
Full of raw nerves and short circuits, the 19-year-old digicore producer’s full-length debut is a study in emo-aggro duality.
